The is a link my dad sent me from The Moscow Times about the dogs of Russia.
My dog is Russian, I baught him from a strange man at the pet market when I was living in Moscow, and looking at these photos I can see many similarities to my dog (the dog in photo 10 even looks like my dog)
And the part about the strays waiting for the crossing lights and riding the metros is true, I've been on the metro and have seen them a couple of times. They even know to wait for all the people getting off before getting on.
